Game Summary for Padres VS 35+ Phillies
Sunday June 15th. 2008 at Windsor High School
Coming off an inspirational comeback win
over the Royals last week,
the Pads looked to build on their success with another win over
the 35+ Phillies. Jack Marion got the start
for the Padres and he looked pretty stellar out of the gate, taking
a perfect game into the fourth, before the Phils broke through with
a little small ball, scoring Sol Gold from third on a sac fly. However,
The Friars had other plans and took the lead back in the bottom
half with a breakout inning powered by a combination of RBI hits
by Louie Bruno and Dave
Giugni and three errors by the Phil's defense. The Pads would
score two more in the sixth and one more in the
seventh, but left the bases loaded on a 4-4-3 double play, which
was hotly contested by Pads CF Andy Wagoner,
"He didn't f#%@ing touch me!", Wags
was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, Marion
was setting the Phils down in order, and took a 6-1 lead into the
top of the eighth, when everything fell apart. The Phillies, having
been twice through the order against Marion
had figured him out it seemed, as six of the first seven reached
base on 4 hits, a walk and an error. When the smoke cleared, they
had scored six and retaken the lead. Pads closer, Jason
Gilbert came in and shut the door over the last 1.1 innings,
giving the Pads two more chances to come back in the bottom of the
eighth and ninth innings, but to no avail, as the final score stood,
Phils 7, Padres 6.
TWIPB NOTE (as provided by roaming reporter
Dave Giugni): This week's note is to honor
Padre 2B "JuMash." I'm sure
he is proud to be the newest member of the "Golden Sombrero
Club." Rather than single out who has the most 3K games over
the past three years, I figured that simply honoring those who have
attained this great feat would be the way to go. So here are the
members...Fisher,
JMash, Giugni, Wilson
and we all say welcome to JuMash...we
are glad you are here. Of course keep in mind that two people on
this list have led the team in batting in 2006 and 2007. I know
many of you are trying to get in, but this club is elite and we
will only accept the finest. So all you guys that have had 2K games...you
better try harder than that!
