Game Summary for Padres VS 35+ Braves
Sunday June 22nd. 2008 at Love Field
In
their ninth game of the season, the Pads were looking to redeem
themselves for their 8th week
loss to the Phillies, in which they
relinquished a 6-1 lead in the 8th inning. They were up against
the 3rd place 35+ Braves, with a lackluster 3-5 record, but after
last week the Pads weren't taking anything for granted. They jumped
out to an early 5-0 lead, with the aid of some well timed hit and
run calls from interim manager Mike "Baldy"
Baldwin. Kevin "K2" Kennedy
got the start for the Pads, and was up to the task, after allowing
a first inning run, was exceptional, getting out of two bases loaded
one out jams in the second and fourth. The key second out both times
was a swinging strike three. Meanwhile the Friars were piling up
runs like a port-a-potty at a dried
apricot festival. By the end of the fifth, the Pads were up 13-1
and coasting. Kennedy had settled in and
was setting em down in order with nine pitches in the 5th, ten in
the 6th seven in the 7th and 13 in the 8th. Only in the ninth, did
he show signs of tiring, giving up three on four hits, two BBs and
a HBP. "The only thing I wish I could change is not leaving
K2 out there so long in the ninth" said Baldwin
after the game. On the offensive side, several Pads had big games,
almost too many to mention, Gilbert 3-4,
with 1 BB, Norman 3-5, with 1BB, 3R, 3RBI,
& 2SB, Walls 3-6, with 12B, & 2RBI,
Fisher 2-5 with 4R, 2SB, 1BB and 2SB.
The top of the order produced, as the first three Pads scored 10,
while 3-5 drove in 7 of their 13 runs. Not much drama in this one,
final score Pads 13, Braves 4.
TWIPB NOTE (as provided by roaming reporter
Dave Giugni): This weeks TWIPB note takes away from the hitting
side of the game and focuses on the Rubber Band Man
Pitching.
We congratulate K2 on his second complete game of the season, whether
or not he is happy about it is yet to be seen. Of course it wouldnt
be complete without mentioning the Padre all-time
leader in complete games
the bulldog
Jack Marion with
3. In case you all are wondering about how many Mike B. has, well
