REBL Line of the Week for 9/16 Goes to our very own: Jason Masciorini, Padres 5 AB, 3 R, 4 H, 0 RBI, 5 SB

Game Summary for Padres Vs Athletics
Sunday the 16th of September 2007 at Santa Rosa High School

The Pads jumped out to a 4-0 lead this week over the short-handed A's, who only had 8 players. Furthermore, they had to start Ryan Metcalfe at first, who is coming back this year from a car accident that almost claimed his life the night before the first round of the playoffs last year. Unfortunately, the A's came right back in the bottom half of the inning and moved ahead in the next couple innings, holding off the Friars, allowing only 2 additional runs until the ninth. However, after a couple rough innings, Pad's starter Jack Marion settled down and held the A's in check as well for most of the game, a large job against one of the best hitting teams in the league with two .500 hitters in Dodson and Mastroyannakis. Although, Dodson has been mysteriously absent from the lineup the past two weeks, prompting speculation around the league that he's intentionally sitting to claim the batting title. The official comment coming out of the A's camp is that he "hurt his wrist washing his truck".

Going into the top of the ninth, the men in navy needed three to tie the Athletics and would have to do it against the closer, Steve "Letters From" Nojima. Leading off the ninth was Guigni, who hit a hard grounder up the middle that was played nicely by SS Mastroyannakis for the first out of the inning. A-Wag, came up next and promptly grounded a ball to third for what appeared to be the second out of the inning. Fortunately, the ball was bobbled, and Wagoner beat it out. Fisher then came up and was hit by a pitch, bringing the tying run to the plate in Jason Masciorini, who had a banner day at the plate, going 4-5, 3R, 5SB. In this match-up, Nojima was able to gain the upper hand, striking out JMash, bring up Jesse "Balls to The" Walls with two outs.

Walls ripped the third pitch, a fastball, into left for a single, and it appeared for a moment that the Friars might tie it up when A's LF Shawn Purcell misplayed it and it rolled all the way to the wall. However, Walls was held up at third, bringing Pads slugger Pete "On the Down" Lopez to the plate as the potential winning run. Lopez ripped a hard ground ball towards the hole, however, A's 2B Matt Wolfe made a nice play ranging to his left to end the game, with the Pads on the losing end of a 9-8 score.

Player of the Game: Jason Masciorini 4-5, 3R, 5SB
